Following in his father's footsteps

I assumed and even expected that there would be several things that Wacky Zacky would do to follow in his father's footsteps. I just thought issues with ceiling fans would not be one of them...

Back in 2002, pre-kiddos, Papa Z and I lived in an apartment. Dessert time for Mama and Papa Z is a serious issue and not one to take lightly. Papa Z had just cut warm brownies and had them on a napkin for dessert. To be fair he decided to hold the mouthwatering brownies in the air out of my line of sight so I could choose my loot. For a normal sized person this would be fine, for Papa Z who is 6'2 and has extremely long arms this was a disastrous action. As he thrust the brownies in the air the ceiling fan whipped around and caught one of the warm gooey brownies causing an explosion of brownie bits to splatter almost every inch of the front room. To my suprise a normal size brownie expands 10,000 times it's size when hit by a ceiling fan!

Fast forward to 2008...Wacky Zacky is 2 1/2 years old and there's absolutely no way he can touch the ceiling fan...Well so I thought. We put up our Halloween decorations yesterday and both Wacky Zacky and Zany Janie can hardly contain themselves. They know that playing with the decorations is off limits. This afternoon Wacky Zacky began playing with a ghost Beanie Baby and panicked when he saw me coming. He threw the ghost in the air timing it exactly right for the ceiling fan to hit a home run. The ghost smacked into the fireplace mantel knocking down half the decorations. Frames went flying, pumpkins were smashed, and ceramic knickknacks were shattered to smithereens.

While I understand neither incident was planned ahead of time, don't you find it odd that both father and son have had a run in with a ceiling fan?

Zany thought of the day: Of all household fixtures to have a run in with...A ceiling fan? Seriously? Has anyone else out there had a run in with a ceiling fan or is this just a special Zany male trait?

That's hysterical!!! No run-in per se, but when I was a very small child my cousins had a VERY sturdy ceiling fan that the boys used to hang my cousin Bonny and I off of and turn on :P No disasters, but quite entertaining!

I'm laughing so hard I have tears streaming down my face. Husbands + kids + ceiling fans = disaster. At least you didn't have a large plate glass window to replace.

Oh my! LOL, really it's not funny that your stuff got broke, just the way you told the story was pretty funny. I can't believe that happened!

We only had one incident with a ceiling fan. We were visiting my mom-in-law & she was at work & my husband got my foot caught in her ceiling fan. LOL It was bruised & swollen the whole rest of our vacation.

Zany, I must know...did you crack up or get mad at Wacky Zacky? I was almost ROLFLing. You write so well!

Oh, and the brownie part...I totally can picture it. Did y'all laugh then?

I'd say I am sorry for laughing at you and your family, but I am not.

Hehehehehehehehehehe...

HAHAHA! Love the brownie bit...I bet that was fun to clean up! :)

No run-ins recently...but I remember being pretty traumatized when I was little because my older brother would hang my Barbies by their necks from the upstairs balcony and then hit them with a bat (from downstairs) until they would slam into the ceiling fan...Those poor Barbies never had a chance!

It's a boy thing for sure.

Spider-Husband sports a gnarly cranial scar from when he turned his head while painting on a ladder and smacked into his ceiling fan in high school.

Between the casts and ceiling fans, I'd look forward to lots of scarring if I were Wacky Zacky. It'll all work out though - chicks totally dig scars. : )

Too funny! I hope you made him clean up the brownie pieces! Hopefully not too much glass shattered when the frames fell :(

Such is the life of a mom or wife...I think it is just a male thing, they find unconventional ways to make great messes. It is a sign of greatness!
