I feel like a walking zombie today! Last night Zany Janie decided to have a little party at 1:00 AM. She woke up and started screaming. I’m not sure if she had a bad dream or woke up and felt scared. I went to her room and fed her to comfort her. She calmed down immediately but wanted to play. She tried to coo and giggle but even in my sleepy haze I didn’t get roped into her little game. I put her back into her crib and went to my bed. She started screaming and continued to scream non-stop for what seemed like an hour, waking everyone in the house and possibly everyone in the neighborhood. Wacky Zacky came to our room and got under the covers-which is a bad habit we have yet mustered the strength to address. After 25+ minutes of constant screaming I did what every child-rearing book tells you NOT to do. I got her and brought her to our room where all 4 of us fell back asleep. I have to wonder if the authors of child-rearing books actually have had children and have had the pleasure to experience a screaming baby in the wee hours of the morning.
Zany thought of the day: Did you know that Randy Gardner holds the record for the longest period of time a human being has intentionally gone with no sleep without using stimulants of any kind? It was set in 1964 and he was awake for 264 hours. I’m not surprised a man holds this record. Moms have been doing it for hundreds of years, they just don’t make a big deal about it!
