To dye or not to dye?

To dye or not to dye? That is the question. When I was pregnant with Wacky Zacky I started noticing a few grey hairs here and there. They were few and far between so I just pulled them out. Once I had Wacky Zacky I dyed my hair and when it washed out I noticed even more and more of those horrible coarse wiry grey hairs. Then I had Zany Janie and the number of grey hairs began to multiply at a rapid pace. Again I dyed my hair on and off throughout the past 2 years. Now that I'm pregnant with Zany baby #3 I've noticed that a whole patch of grey hair has decided to take front and center stage. I've never dyed my hair when pregnant because I've heard mixed messages about how it's not good for the baby, but I've never really heard why it's bad. I'm not sure if it's just an old wives tale. Papa Z asked me what would happen if I did dye my hair when pregnant and I joked that the baby would be born with the same color skin as the dye. He didn't think it was all that humorous. So for now I think I'll pass on the hair dye and hope that they don't call me grandma when I come in to deliver the baby!

Zany thought of the day: I've had one really bad hair dye job and it was even done by a professional! I went in for subtle highlights and basically came out looking like a platinum blond! A few days later I went back in to complain that I didn't like it and to fix the mess they made they just dyed it black. Have you had any mishaps with hair dye?

I've had friends that have dyed their hair during pregnancies. They asked their doctors...and all the doctors said was..."just make sure you're in a well ventilated room when it's being dyed". Surely there are organic dyes out there too!

They say the dye can seep into your skin and into your blood stream but everything I have read said its like a 000.0000001% chance of happening and they still dotn know if it can actuly effect the baby. id go ahead and do it and just get one that stays on for the least amount of time like those 10 minute ones

Oh it's just an old wives tale! I colored my hair when it's pregnant, as long as you do it in a well ventilated room, you're good!

MY doctor recommends that you wait after the first trimester....I wanted to get my hair relaxed after the birth of my first daughter and was told by the salon that I needed to wait a little longer to allow all of the hormones to return to normal.

I left one salon with orange hair after I requested that I wanted my old highlights to blend in more with my natural hair color (it was fall). I had to wait one day before I could go back so they could fix it from ORANGE. Now I refuse to dye my hair--grey hairs or not!

I used to dye my hair all the time durring both pregnancies. My kids are fine just do it in a well ventilated room and don't leave it on too long. I also did hilights which dosnt touch your scalp if you are that concerned.

wow - am I going senile, or have I not clicked on your blog for a long time? When's babyz3 due? Maybe go into a hairdressing shop and ask them - they might not tell you the truth though... {:-D

I had the same situation...highlights looked more like bleached hair...getting it covered meant it was a little "ashy" which looked like a purple tone to me!
