The Elf on the Shelf

We've started a new tradition in our house this year...There is an Elf living among us that watches the kids and reports back to "The Big Man" (AKA Santa) letting him know if they have been naughty or nice. The kids get to name the Elf every year and this year they decided to name him Santa Elf. Santa Elf is a magical creature that flies to Santa at night and reappears in a different spot in our house each morning. The kids love to search the house for him and have found him in the blinds, on the fireplace mantel, on a ceiling fan, on a hanging light, and even in the Christmas tree. He's a sneaky little hider, but so far the kids have been able to find him and are thrilled with the adventure. In the morning there's usually talk about what Santa Elf told Santa. Zany Janie feels she has played it safe and her report to Santa was good because she didn't tear up the Christmas tree...Forget about all the times she hit her brother, didn't listen to me, or got into treats without asking. Wacky Zacky on the other hand will weigh the naughty things he did with the nice things and try to determine if the nice things outweigh the naughty things. The rest of the day is filled with taunting from both Wacky Zacky and Zany Janie as they tell each other, "Santa is going to bring you rocks!" which always results in tears and sobbing! Despite the tears from time to time this is a fun tradition that we plan to continue throughout the years.
