Apple Crisp

My family loves apples (some more than others, refer to "Apples are good but..." post for more details) so any recipe using apples is sure to be a favorite in our household. One Zany family favorite is apple crisp and it’s so easy to make. This particular recipe comes from The Pampered Chef Season’s Best Recipe Collection. The only changes I make to the recipe is to omit the nuts and use an apple cutter to slice the apples into wedges instead of just in half. I also find that I have to bake it about 10 minutes longer than directed before the apples are tender. It tastes so good and makes your house smell wonderful when it is baking! The picture doesn't do it justice!

QUICK APPLE CRISP

Ingredients:
5 Granny Smith apples
1 package (9 oz) yellow cake mix
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
¼ cup butter or margarine, melted
½ cup chopped nuts
Optional: Vanilla ice cream or thawed, frozen whipped topping

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel, core, and slice apples. Cut apples in half. Place apples in deep dish baker.
2. Combine cake mix, sugar, cinnamon, butter, and nuts in bowl. Mix until crumbly using knife. Sprinkle mixture evenly over apples.
3. Bake 35-40 minutes or until apples are tender. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped topping, if desired.

Zany thought of the day: Important information to know when bobbing for apples: 25 percent of an apple's volume is air. That is why they float.

Your version is way healthier than the one that I learned at a Pampered Chef party. Instead of the sugar, I use 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1 cup of oatmeal mixed with the cinnamon and cake mix.

Then, I drizzle one stick of melted butter over the top.

It is fantastic.
